Route Planners

Use our postcode of IV55 8GD in electronic route planners such as the one at the AA or use the routes suggested below.  On narrow roads with passing places, for those not used to them, the rule is stay left even when the passing place is on the right.

Where we are

We are in Waternish, on the B886, exactly on the T-junction, where the road turns left to Stein (signposted "Stein 1/2").  Our entrance is immediately on the right, leading off the T-junction.

Skye Bridge to Waternish

A87 right from the bridge, through Broadford

either
A863 left at Sligachan (after Sconser) to Dunvegan
A850 right in Dunvegan towards Portree
B886 left after 4 miles into Waternish

or

continue on A87 to Portree

A87 left on entering Portree towards Uig

A850 left after Portree towards Dunvegan

B886 right into Waternish after Edinbane

Armadale Ferry to Waternish

A851 right from the ferry
A87 left, through Broadford
Then follow Skye Bridge to Waternish above

Skye from Edinburgh

My preferred way (easier driving than than the Callander route) is:

M90 north to Perth
A9 at Perth north towards Inverness.
A889 left through Dalwhinnie
A86 left to Spean Bridge then

either
for the Bridge
A82 right at Spean Bridge
A87 left at Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh

Or

for the Ferry
A82 left at Spean Bridge
A830 right at Fort William to Mallaig

Skye from Glasgow

A82 north along Loch Lomond to Crianlarich
A82 left to Fort William, via Glen Coe (turn north on reaching the coast)

either
for the  Ferry

A830 left at Fort William to Mallaig

Or

for the Bridge
A82 to Invergarry
A87 left at Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh

Skye from Inverness

My preferred route (scenic, good road, little traffic):

A9 north past Dingwall
A835 towards Ullapool
A832 left at Garve, towards Gairloch
A890 left for Kyle of Lochalsh at Achnasheen,
A890 left before Loch Carron
A87 right to Kyle of Lochalsh

Or if you wish to see Loch Ness (and fellow sightseers):
A82 south along Loch Ness toward Fort William
